During my travels this week I happened to catch a Halloween sunset at Big Sur. Happy Halloween!!
The wife got all our kids together for a summer vacation over the last week. We went to Yosemite. These photos don’t do it justice. It is one of the places you have to visit to understand the magnitude of the place. “Majestic” was the word that came to mind when we first drove into the park. BTW, I should be home for the rest of the summer so posts to Downside Hedge should be back to normal next week.
Our post from the weekend said everything there is to say about the market so Today I’ll just show a few more vacation pictures. These are from Monterey (California). If you ever get a chance to drive Highway 1, that follows the California coast, you should make a detour and drive thru Monterey, around Monterey bay, through Pacific Grove, then make the 17 mile drive. Here are a few pictures from the area. The first picture is Monterey Bay (taken from Monterey). The next picture is on Highway 1, going south past Carmel.
On a recent trip to the Northern California coast we stopped at some tide pools just south of San Francisco. This scene made me smile. I was amused by the juxtaposition between the young and old. The young run, while the mature observe. I’m sure I could turn this into a trading and investing analogy, but that might spoil the fun. I found myself somewhere in between the young and old…walking and taking pictures.
Long time readers know that I have a couple of parks close to my home which each host a fireworks show or two every year. This past weekend one of them celebrated the fourth of July. When I hear the first firework explode all I have to do is get a beer…or glass of wine…or large pour of bourbon (depending on the occasion), snag a lawn chair, and set it in the driveway. I got out the camera this weekend and got a few decent pictures. I hope you all have a great holiday filled with family, friends, and food.
The wife and I took a week to travel four hours from our home last week. The majority of the trip was on Highway 1 from San Francisco to Monterey, but we stayed a night in Sausalito on the way. It is located just on the North side of the Golden Gate bridge. While I’m sure all of you who have traveled to San Francisco have seen the bridge, I’m guessing that many of you didn’t know that this beautiful lighthouse is only another 10 minutes away. If you’re ever in the San Francisco bay area be sure to add a few hours to visit the park where the lighthouse is located. Be advised that it is only open Saturday thru Monday from 12:30 to 3:30. It was raining with a wind directly into the camera lens and I was too lazy to clean it between pictures so I apologize for the spots in the next picture.
I’ve been married to the wife for 30 years today. She’s just as cute and sassy as the day we met. O.k. to be honest, cute has matured into beauty…and the sass is now better characterized as vitriol. Fortunately, I’m amused by criticism.
