I got this as change today. I did a double take to see if the clerk was my grandma…and if it was my birthday.
On Thursday I posted a couple of signs I saw that are starting to paint a picture of the economic conditions in my area (and probably the rest of the United States). We’ll here’s another sign that made me laugh at first, then gave me pause. I’m not sure what it means. It is most likely a simple commentary on this retailer’s experience with crime. Regardless of the meaning, this is another sign of our times. As a side note, I’m not sure if he really has a gun. Take a look at the picture he drew. The trigger is backwards. Nevertheless, I won’t be testing him.
A few weeks ago one of my kids met up with several of his friends from college to catch a San Francisco Giants game. They’ve graduated from college and their first “real” jobs have scattered them across Northern California. They landed in San Francisco, Napa Valley, Sacramento, Chico, and beyond. Fortunately for them, they’re not too far apart so they can still get together. As a parent, it’s fun to realize that these are the teenage boys that used to litter my family room gaming, watching TV, and arguing about everything from games to sports to girls. Ok, I have to be honest, sports, gaming, and girls are the only things they talked about…arguing or not. Eight of them applied to the same colleges and then picked the one that accepted them all. Probably not the best idea for someone who has aggressive career goals, but a great choice for a group of friends that understand what’s really important in life. Watching them start real life is very rewarding for
The high school near my house does a fireworks show every year for Homecoming. It’s close enough that all I have to do is get a lawn chair, a beer, and sit in the driveway. Technically, I’ve left the house, but my wife doesn’t count it that way.
My wife loves to visit street fairs. She often drags me to them to “get me out of the house once in a while”. Once she starts shopping she tends to walk very fast and I find my self following behind. Luckily for me, she wears funky colors that make it hard to lose her in a crowd.
While Ben Bernanke and previous Federal Reserve chairmen have chosen Jackson Hole for their annual retreat I prefer to visit Lake Tahoe in August or September. The weather is always beautiful this time of year providing a myriad of different shades of blue in the water, sky, and the mountains that surround the lake. Sorry for the poor picture quality…I used my phone for the pictures…also sorry for the girl that kept stepping in front of me every time I broke out the phone. The view from the summit on Highway 50 takes my breath away every time I make the drive. If you’re ever in San Francisco, Napa Valley, or Silicon Valley you should plan at least one night on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe. The drive is just over 3 hours from the bay area and well worth the trip.
